Black Dog is dedicated to helping dogs and their guardians live together in harmony and nourishing the natural bond between them.
Every year millions of dogs are euthenized in the United States. Some of these dogs are homeless or abandoned but many are given up because of behavior problems. These dogs are misunderstood and could become loving family members with proper training.
Providing that training is why we started Black Dog K-9 Performance.
Owner / Trainer Marty Sullivan and his wife Heide have opened their home to many shelter dogs who for one reason or another were abandoned or given up and have worked through their problems using positive reinforcement training methods.
Marty is a graduate of Animal Behavior College and is a Member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and the Association of Companion Animal Behavior Counselors.
He is also an American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen evaluator and certified by G.A.P.(Gifted Animal Placement) finding therapy, search and rescue and assistance dogs in shelters.
As trainer for one of the largest animal shelters in the U.S.
www.Animalwelfareleague.com. Marty and Heide work with all breeds and problems including aggression,(toward humans and dogs).

    • I've been impressed with Marty's work in the past with my Border Collie. Where she had no major behavioral issues, she went from a good dog to a great one. We recently adopted a rescued Australian Shepherd that is over-protective of "her person". Marty has a challenge in front of him, but I have confidence that we will once again have another success. Wish us luck!

    • What do you think about WIKILEAKS? By the way, anybody home?!

    • My family and I adopted a Lab/Chow (LC) mix (now about age 2) to join our family that includes a Labradoodle. The LC usually is great. He often plays with our Labradoodle aggressively, however other dogs - when he goes to the dog park, he is not as aggressive. Until this past Sunday, the worst he did around the house was he lightly bit my 9 year old son when my son accidentally stepped on him. The LC also would go ballistic when a mailman or anyone else who comes by the house to drop anything in the mail slot. We including my 9 yr old were able to pull the dog away from the door without incident. However, Sunday someone came to drop something into the mail slot and my son tried to pull the LC away from the door. While I was trying to take the dog from my son to take the dog in the back room, the LC bit my son on the arm and dragged him to the floor before releasing him. I had the dog by the collar while this was going on, but did not have a good enough grip to stop the LC from doing this. I then took the dog into the backyard and took my son to the urgent care center where they needed 14 stitches to close the wounds. With all of that said, I believe the dog would make a good pet. We candidly did not spend enough time training him. My wife is now convinced that it is not worth the risk to take a chance to keep the dog around. Further, since I am again out of work, we can't afford to pay to go through a training class with the dog. Do you know of any "No Kill" farms or shelters that can take the dog? As of today, Dazzles Painted Pastures is currently full, so if you know any "No Kill" farms or shelters that are within 2 hours from Chicago, please let me know. Thank you. Stephen and Debbie

    • that's quite a family you've got there. Keep up the good work!
